Mission and Vision

Vision

Empowered, autonomous women exercising their individual and collective citizenship, participating in decision-making and contributing to the construction of a society with social justice, free from violence and discrimination.

Mission

To promote women's human rights, especially the right to a life free from violence, through prevention, care and psycho-legal and social support for women and their children in situations of domestic and family violence; and through training and public advocacy processes aimed at empowerment, the full exercise of women's citizenship and the transformation of patriarchal power relations in the private and public spheres.

Political focus and action

Our work stems from a critical and transformative understanding of reality: violence against women is not an isolated incident or a private matter, but a structural expression of gender inequalities and the patriarchal system. Therefore, we combine direct support with political education, community mobilization, and advocacy for public policy.

Origins and trajectory

Founded in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in the 1990s, in the midst of the transition to formal democracy, the Casa de la Mujer (Women's House) was born from the initiative of a diverse group of women who decided to organize themselves to confront a silenced reality: the daily violence faced by thousands of women and the almost total absence of state responses.

Situational analysis

Despite legal advances in Bolivia, violence against women persists at alarming rates: femicides, sexual, physical, psychological, and economic violence continue to claim lives daily. Impunity, the precariousness of public services, and the lack of resources allocated to law enforcement agencies are everyday obstacles.

Regulatory context

The Bolivian legal framework recognizes women's rights through Law No. 348 (Comprehensive Law to Guarantee Women a Life Free of Violence) and international treaties such as the Belém do Pará Convention and CEDAW. However, the gap between the written law and its effective implementation remains one of the greatest challenges.

Psychological care

We provide comprehensive psychological care with a feminist perspective to girls, boys, adolescents, women and people of sexual and gender diversity who are survivors of sexist violence, promoting reparation of damage, access to justice, strengthening of autonomy and self-care.

Healthcare

The health service provides timely, gender-sensitive medical care to women, girls, and adolescents, especially those experiencing violence. Since 2023, the Women's Center has operated a health center offering comprehensive and specialized care.
