From our window - March 8th
From our window
Today is March 8, 2019, and from our window we look out onto the streets. The first thing we see are the women working tirelessly at the small market right across the street from our offices. This date commemorates long-sought labor rights, and despite the passage of time, in some places time has stood still. They continue to work in the worst conditions, earning starvation wages when they have any, and when they don't, they endure self-exploitation and grueling workdays. Only in this way can they put food on their tables.
The struggle for equality between women and men has a long history, in which women have been and continue to be protagonists in movements demanding labor, political, social, and cultural rights. While we cannot deny the necessary and important progress made in the legal frameworks of our countries, there is still much to be done and much transformation to be done. Women continue to experience discrimination and exclusion that manifests itself in various ways, from the workplace and political participation to patriarchal violence and the denial of our sexual and reproductive rights.
The struggle of women, our struggle, is political; it seeks power to transform the unequal relationships that produce injustices and systems of oppression; for these reasons, we pay homage to the fighters and forerunners who inspire the movements that shelter us today.
On this March 8th, we join the global agendas that encompass all our demands aimed at building an equality that respects diversity and the multiple identities that strengthen feminist movements, their causes, and their struggles. Women, we continue marching forward, always onward.
For the fulfillment of our agenda!
For our struggles
For our hard-won rights
